Testimonials
Though coaching was not always a piece of cake, I have to say that it was
probably among the most beneficial things I’ve ever done for myself.
Thanks to the sessions I spent with Karen, I was able to frame my personal
values and actually commit to paper those things that are most important to
me.... In addition, I’ve become more introspective and have learned how
important it is to make time for myself. Techniques taught to me by Karen
have helped me analyze the things in my life that work or don’t work for
me. Coaching empowered me to change the things that don’t work and enjoy on
a deeper level the things that do. In short, the coaching time spent with
Karen Sweet made a valuable difference to me.

During our
coaching, Karen was a keen listener, genuine in her approach,
curious, trustful as well as worthy of my trust. I could count on
her to be with me and for me in every coaching session. She was also
adept at asking questions or framing a situation to help me view it
from different perspectives. As important, she helped
me just “be” with a perspective for
awhile; to try it on and feel it. This was something I didn’t
find easy to do initially; however, with time and practice it became
one of my most important life tools. I vividly remember many other
conversations and exercises with Karen that I use as reference
points today. Especially powerful was an exercise and
coaching sessions related to identifying my life values…and how I was honoring those values in my
daily life. I repeat this particular exercise and process regularly
and with enthusiasm because with a focus on my values I found that I
could really live my life with purpose.

Karen brought tremendous insight and focus
to her coaching. I attribute significant personal and academic growth,
which I am utterly confident will apply to reaching my career goals, to our
coaching relationship and I am deeply grateful for having worked with her
during this time. R.D., CA
Karen and I began working together at a time in my life when I had several
challenges confronting me. I had changed my work mode to telecommuting,
was on the verge of retiring, and had recently moved.
Sometimes I can be somewhat of a procrastinator and Karen has the ability
to help set deadlines for progress without making one feel overly pushed.
I always looked forward to our meetings, which were mostly conducted by
telephone. It was as though I had my own private cheering section and yet
I never felt she was in the role of a "yes person."
I still remember the feeling of being pumped up and given a fresh dose of
enthusiasm after each session.
Thanks to Karen and her sensitivity, insight and guidance I successfully
transitioned to a full time telecommuter, was able to incorporate my own
personal work style into my regimen while avoiding taking on other's expectations
of me. I did retire and relied on Karen's wealth of knowledge about compensation
to ask some critical questions about my financial condition. Additionally,
I took the lead in helping my wife establish her own very successful consulting
business which had the bonus of bringing us closer together both emotionally
and physically as she conducted her business from our home instead of working
remotely.
One of the most important aspects of our relationship, I feel, was the intuitive
sense that Karen brought to it. She was able, many times, to be a signpost
for me by pointing out the options I had available as I reached various
crossroads. It took a few meetings for me to understand that Karen
wasn't going to tell me what to do, but rather I had to look and decide
for myself. After I reached that point, I got more out of our sessions
and felt more confident and satisfied about what I chose to do.
Even after we agreed to discontinue meeting, I still rely on some of the
skills and life lessons I learned to help guide me through good times and
bad.

Didn't know much about coaching but since I'd worked with Karen on another
project, I agreed to coach with her. I look at coaching pragmatically-
Did I gain anything from coaching? I'd say yes, coaching framed issues
and questions I might not have thought of, might not have acted on.
It was worth my time and investment. D.H., President & Founder, High Technology Co.
In these hectic times it is easy to get wound up in thinking about several
things at once and having a hard time settling on one goal or project at a
time. The resulting stress causes more confusion, which leads to more
stress, and so on. I found personal coaching to be a calming influence
on my "busy, busy" lifestyle. Coaching gave me a time that I could
look forward to, when I knew that I would take deep breaths, slow my mental
pace and look at things from an unhurried, supportive viewpoint. The
viewpoint was my own--I just didn't hear it over the day-to-day "noise."
Personal goals during the week between the coaching sessions kept (or
returned) me to that calm place where I could consider the right course of
action for me--not for all of the competing interests around me. I
thought the time was well spent and productive. Just thinking of our
sessions helps me slow my pace when I have let things get away from me.
I can happily recommend personal coaching to anyone who wants to take the
time to create a better sense of personal contentment and calm.
